Week #1 Of OLC Sign Job

Ok, so I have just recently been appointed to put out signs for Oak Leaf Church by Nathan , and yesterday was our first week. The way the job works is we have to put the signs out every Friday evening and pick them up the following Sunday night since the law states that you cant leave signs up all week but you CAN leave them up on the weekends. The problem is that we have to be careful where we put them because some place are anal about signs being put on “their” property without permission. Also we need to stay a way from certain parts of the city because I could either get fined, or be arrested for putting signs up on city owned property……yeah…..I dont get it. So the day started out with me meeting Hannah at Wal-Mart to pick up the materials. These consisted of around 80 signs and their stands. Afterwards I drove home, picked up my buddy Jason, and we were well on our way to what was an unexpected long night. As we made our adventure to the roads of Cartersville we realized “Hey! this could be a bit dangerous”, since I came about 5-6 inches from being ran over by a car who wasn’t paying attention to the cross-walk. Many places like I said earlier, did not want signs on their property; places like Checkers, Hooters, and possibly Chick-fil-a. Unfortunately we were somewhat stuck to being on Main Street, since Tennessee street is too shady of a place to be in after dark. What surprised me the most was that the movie theater our church used to meet in would not allow us to put signs up! Some businesses are just a little psycho like that. In the end Jason and I put around half of the signs we had around Cartersville. I wouldn’t be surprised that in the next couple weeks we see alot of people who visited the C-Ville Taco Bell who were FASCINATED by the fact that Chuck Norris loves our church! We finished right around 10p.m. So after I dropped Jason off I went home and crasshed for 11 hours.

When I first started going to Oak Leaf in Fall of 2006, I was rather surprised at the type of attire needed to be worn at the church. The attire being…….get this……WHATEVER YOU WANTED. I was astonished that I was attending a church that people didnt frown upon you if you wanted to wear a t-shirt, jeans with holes, and flip flops to church! Some people thought it was completely unbelievable.

Along with the citizens that believed that the dress code for the church was’nt true just so happened to be my father. I remember waking up, getting dressed, and walking out the door only to be stopped by my dad so just I could be ordered to change into nice jeans, nice shoes, and a Polo shirt. Apparently I was “disrepecting” God with my satanic New Balances and American Eagle jeans sent from Hell. Haha! But after a few weeks I was able to nudge it through his head that it didnt matter what you wore, so he finally, even though he didnt want to, backed off the subject.

As if the way I dress to The LKeaf wasnt bothering my parents enough they thought the only reason I began to go was for the groups that led worship for the church. Can you say MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT! I began to think that there was no hope of my parents fully approving of my church.

My parents visitied Oak leaf a few times, but were never regular attenders of it or any church at all. But once we bagan holding the services at Woodland High School things started to turn around. I started playing in the praise band and my parents wanted to come see me play. So one thing led to another and after 2 straight months of me playing guitar at church my mom and dad realized all the things that I saw. All the potential, love for God, and the mission within the church. So the officially became regular attenders.

This was the first major mile stone, the second had yet to come.

My Aunt Sherry is head of the security team at the Leaf, so we had made a mind set to get my parents in the game of volunteering. after about 6 months, they gave it a try. Needless to say the now volunteer every week and I’ve never felt so humbled. And it’s also some much need help the security team needed.

I never knew my parents would be assisting of the movement of leading people from where they are to where God wants them to be.
